The mission of Behavioral Treatment Services is to provide accessible, integrated, and inclusive behavioral health services supporting clients throughout the criminal justice system. Behavioral Treatment Services provides a continuum of specialized adult offender substance abuse and other treatment modalities. Being a part of the BTS team means being a part of the forefront of Colorado’s behavioral health and criminal justice programs and initiatives. Our goals are to provide a space toward client healing, reduce criminal recidivism, assist clients in working towards personal growth, and collaborate with the system and client to work towards mutually agreeable goals.

BTS provides clinical services, court related services, and specialized programs for adults involved in the criminal justice system. BTS provides services at community corrections sites (including residential treatment programs), outpatient locations, jail based, and court liaison programs in 9 counties across Colorado.

Clinical Therapist is responsible for providing evaluations, individual and group interventions, education groups, and follow-up support to clients who have been referred by the court and probation due to the client’s involvement with and/or risk of continued use of drugs/alcohol, based on assessments. The caseload will include DUI offenders.

The Therapist will collaborate with client to develop, implement, and revise individualized service plan, maintain required documentation, and collaborate with treatment team to provide trauma-informed clinical care.


The Day Reporting Program provides wrap around supportive services to the forensic competency population.

Title: Behavioral Health Therapist
Location:  Boulder, CO
Hours: Full Time - 
40hrs/5 days
Salary: $55,016 - $56,680/yr (based on licensure) 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Treat all clients with dignity and respect;
  • Conduct drug/alcohol evaluations; interview clients for admission; assess the need for on-going treatment or referral to other agencies;
  • Conduct individual, group, and family counseling sessions;
  • Collaborate with Client to develop, implement, and revise individualized treatment plans;
  • Integrate Motivational Enhancement Therapy into all aspects of counseling;
  • Provide psycho-education classes and other educational presentations on substance abuse and mental illness;
  • Communicate with families, probation/parole officers, and community agencies regarding treatment, discharge and aftercare plans;
  • Provide supervision for Licensure for other clinicians and for Master's level clinical interns.
  • Maintain required documentation in all areas including, but not limited to: counselor’s admit notes, assessments, daily charting, weekly clinical staffing notes, and discharge summaries according to company and professionally accepted standards;
  • Attend treatment team and jail program staff meetings and clinical staffing;
  • Attend training sessions for the purpose of upgrading skills and obtaining or maintaining counselor certification;
  • Collaborate with peer mentors;
  • Observe confidentiality requirements;
  • Functions in accordance with the professions Code of Ethics and Facility’s policies and procedures;
  • Requires working evening/weekend hours as required.

  • Demonstrates competency in accordance with the 12 core counseling functions defined by the National Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselors.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or related field;
  • Certification as a Certified Addictions Counselor II (CAC II), CAC III preferred;
  • Active registration in DORA;
  • Experience providing clinical services;
  • Ability to enter data into variety of computer software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • LPC or LAC Certification;
  • Licensed clinician in respective discipline: LCSW, LPC, LMFT, LAC;
  • Experience working in a substance abuse treatment program with a diverse population;
  • Experience providing substance abuse treatment to adult offenders;
  • Familiar with evidence-based treatment models;
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills;
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus
